Salesforce Winter '27 Release: Key Dates and Sandbox Prep

The Winter '27 release cycle is getting ready, and getting your org ready starts with two essentials: knowing when your production instance flips over, and making sure your sandbox is positioned to preview the new features early.

When Does Production Upgrade?

Before the big switch, it's worth running a full regression pass on your critical business processes. Salesforce upgrades are generally low-drama, but a quick health check saves headaches later.

Per Salesforce's official Sandbox Preview Instructions, non-preview (production) instances are upgraded to Winter '27 on:

• October 9, 2026
• October 10, 2026

One point worth clearing up, because it circulates widely each release: August 28–29, 2026 is the preview instance upgrade weekend, not a production weekend. That's when sandboxes on preview instances move to Winter '27.

Your specific upgrade date depends on which instance hosts your org. Log into Salesforce Trust, search by your instance name or domain, and check the Maintenance tab to pin down your exact window. If you're unsure of your instance, it's listed under Company Information in Setup.

Sandbox Preview Window

This is where you get hands-on time with new functionality before it hits production. According to the official notice Salesforce sent to system administrators, the sandbox preview window opens on August 28, 2026.

To participate, your sandbox needs to be created or refreshed on a preview-enabled instance ahead of the cut-off: on August 27, 2026. Most orgs are already configured this way by default, so no action is typically required.

Preview instances themselves are upgraded across August 28–29, 2026.

Pre-Release Orgs

For those who want an even earlier look, pre-release orgs let you explore Winter '27 features in a clean environment (note: none of your existing configuration or data carries over). Keep an eye out for the sign-up link as it becomes available closer to the window opening.

Release Notes

The release notes are the real prize — the first official rundown of every new feature and enhancement landing across the platform. These typically drop shortly before the sandbox preview window opens, so check back as we get closer to late August.
