Nonprofit Cloud ships with pre-built AI agents for case managers, fundraisers and volunteer coordinators. Here's what each one does, where it stands today, and the one thing that decides whether they help or hurt.
It's 8:40 on a Monday morning at a mid-sized nonprofit.
A case manager is finishing last Friday's session notes before her first client arrives. A major gifts officer has a donor lunch at noon and is still searching for anything he can find about the prospect. The volunteer coordinator has a spreadsheet open and six unfilled Saturday shifts. And someone in the development team is answering the fourth email this week from a donor who just wants to change the card on their monthly gift.
None of this is the work these roles were hired to do. All of it has to get done anyway.
That's the gap Salesforce is aiming at with Nonprofit Cloud - and for the first time, the answer isn't another report or another screen. It's an agent that does the first pass of the work, while a person stays in charge.

In 2023, Salesforce launched Nonprofit Cloud and over the years launched a set of pre-built AI agents for fundraising, program management, volunteer coordination and donor support.
The foundation hasn't changed. It's still the Nonprofit Cloud data model - Person Accounts, Gift Commitments, Gift Transactions, programs, case management and volunteer management. What's new is the layer on top.
An agent doesn't just show you data. It reads it, reasons about it, and takes a step - drafting, summarising, matching or answering - for a person to review.
That's the shift: from software your staff operate to software that does part of the job while your staff direct it. The pre-built agent templates are included with Nonprofit Cloud.
| Agent | Built for | What it takes off their plate |
|---|---|---|
| Participant Management | Case and program managers | Notes, goals, referrals, client summaries |
| Donor Support | Donors (self-service) | Routine gift and payment questions |
| Volunteer Capacity & Coverage | Volunteer coordinators | Finding and filling shift gaps |
| Prospect Research | Major gifts fundraisers | Pre-meeting donor research |
The problem: case managers lose hours every week to documentation - time that should be spent with the people they serve.
What the agent does: it works alongside the case manager during or after a client conversation. It summarises the person's background and the services they're receiving, drafts new goals, takes notes and flags referrals to other services.
Where it stands: generally available since the December 2025 launch, with enhanced summary capabilities planned to follow in 2026.
The problem: your fundraising team spends too much of its week answering the same handful of questions.
What the agent does: it gives donors a self-service channel for routine requests - updating payment details, checking gift history, changing a recurring donation - at any hour. Anything it can't handle goes to your team.
Where it stands: Salesforce's launch timeline put it in beta in spring 2026 and generally available in summer 2026.
Every question a donor resolves on their own is time your development team gets back for the conversations that move a major gift forward.
The problem: unfilled shifts, and a coordinator cross-referencing availability, skills and location by hand.
What the agent does: it spots coverage gaps and surfaces the best-fit volunteers for each role, based on availability, skills and location.
Where it stands: launched in beta in December 2025, with general availabile now.
Matching many volunteers to many shifts across several variables is exactly the kind of task that takes a person an afternoon and an agent a few seconds.
The problem: major gift work lives or dies on preparation, and preparation takes hours.
What the agent does: it pulls together wealth capacity, philanthropic interests, milestones and engagement history so a fundraiser walks into the meeting briefed.
Where it stands: generally available since launch, with Slack support rolling out through 2026 - so the research lands where fundraising teams already talk to each other.
The four agents above mostly respond when someone asks. The next step is helping fundraisers decide when and how to reach out.
Salesforce now describes a Donor Engagement agent that brings together a donor summary, giving history, recent touchpoints and relationship status, so a fundraiser can make the right ask at the right moment. We expect its scope to firm up around the Winter '27 release cycle.
A quick, honest caveat: scope and GA dates for roadmap items move from release to release. If you're planning around this agent, check the final Winter '27 release notes - or ask your account team - before you commit.
Every one of these agents has the same dependency: it only knows what your data tells it.
The agents read the Nonprofit Cloud data model. If your organisation is still on NPSP, they have nothing to read - you need to migrate first. And if the migration went wrong, the agents don't know that. They'll work with whatever they find, confidently.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
A person with a spreadsheet might notice something looks off. An agent at scale repeats the mistake for every record it touches. Bad data used to produce a wrong report. Now it produces a wrong action.
Turning an agent is quick. Getting it to give answers your staff trust takes clean data, a staged rollout and people who know how to work with it.
The agents are the part everyone talks about. The data underneath is the part that decides whether they work. We wrote about what goes wrong in that layer in The Hidden Reason Most NPSP Migrations Break.
Zenyus AI works only with nonprofits and public sector organisations. We move NPSP data to Nonprofit Cloud with our NPC Migration Agent - loaded in the right order, reconciled and fully auditable - and then help your teams test, roll out and adopt the agents that fit.

Sometimes it's not bad data, wrong field mappings, or a tight deadline. It's loading records in the wrong order. Here's what referential integrity means for your Agentforce Nonprofit migration — and how to get it right.
